Joseph Thomas Chorniak was born December 12, 1912 in Buchtel, Athens, Ohio to John Chorniak (Johan Csornyak) and Mary Tutuckie (Tutoki).
Joseph was the third of six children; George 1906-1915, Ann 1907-1986, John Henry 1914-1985, Paul 1917- 1956, Albert 1920-2000.
Joe's mother passed away in 1922.
Joe joined the CCC's(Civilian Conservation Corps.) In 1935 or 1936, he went to Utah with the CCC's, there he met June Beers of Pleasant Grove, Utah. They were married in the Catholic Church on May 2, 1936 in Provo, Utah.
The CCC's had taught Joe to be a cat operator. He helped build the Deer Creek Dam, and many roads in the Unita Mountians, A.F. Canyon and the road from Cedar Fort to Tooele. He and June had 8 children; JoAnne, Dolores, Dennis, Tommy, Kenny, Julie, Jeanne, Jann.
They built a home in Pleasant Grove. Joe was a wonderful husband and father. He died at home on April 3, 1954 from coronary thrombosis at the age of 41, leaving June to raise 8 children from the ages of 17 years to 9 months.
