Neva Pearl Henderson, 101, of Memphis, Missouri, died Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.
She was born September 21, 1912, in Schuyler County, Missouri, to Oscar and Effie Pindell Ketchum.
Neva married Elmer Barrickman in 1927 and to this union three daughters were born. She married Fred Henderson in 1947. Neva was a member of the Coffey Christian Church.She worked at Benners Grocery Store and later worked as a nurse’s aide at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa and Scotland County Hospital in Memphis. She retired in 1975 but continued to be a care giver for older members in the community. Neva was an avid reader and enjoyed housekeeping; she could always be found cleaning something. She took exceptional pride in her yard and did her own mowing until 1994. She was also the best noodle and Texas Sheet Cake maker in town. Neva realized her greatest pleasures spending time with her family.
She is survived by three grandchildren: Teresa Fischer and her husband, Rick, of Memphis, Missouri; Mark Kutzner of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Wanda Gerling and her husband, Mike, of Holt Summit, Missouri; seven great grandchildren: Pam Jensen and her husband, Wes; Bridget Verplanck and her husband, Jonny; Brandi Gerling, Shelley Klatt and her husband, Ryan; Shelia Brenneke and her husband, James, Jeremy Phillips, Chris Phillips and eight great great grandchildren: Marcus Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Abigail Klatt, Audrey Klatt, Isabelle Brenneke, Aiden Brenneke, Madelyn Brenneke and Eli Turpin. Also surviving are two nieces: Joy Nicoli and Jean Allen of Memphis, Missouri.
Neva was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Oscar Ketchum and Jesse Ketchum; two sisters: Jewell Cook and Lelia Allen; three daughters: Geneva Elaine, in infancy, Marjorie Maxine Kutzner and her husband, Walter, and Betty Darlene Fogle; three grandchildren: Walter Max Kutzner and Rhonda Maxine Kutzner who died in infancy, Doug Fogle and a great granddaughter, Heather R. Jenkins
