Palatea Elizabeth "Pallie" Oden (1849-1916) was born at her parents Joshua Bussey Oden and Rebecca McBride Peeples' plantation located between Selma and Plantersville, Alabama. Pallie was educated at the academy in Summerfield.

Pallie married Washington Lafayette Ellis on 24 May 1874, long after the death of her mother, at her father's home in Talladega County, Alabama. Pallie and Wash's home Circa 1846 is located on Court Street in Prattville. (The Ellis-Barnes house is completely restored and beautiful.

Pallie Elizabeth and her new husband joined The First Presbyterian Church of Prattville by letter on 2 January 1875.

Pallie was described as being very aristocratic, very regal and grand. She was kind but accepted no nonsense. She was exacting in everything she did. She wore beautiful clothes and was always perfectly dressed and adorned, and she was considered to be the "queen bee" of Prattville society. Her home was beautiful and perfectly appointed. She insisted on having only the best. Her good opinion was coveted. She was a loyal wife and loving mother. In her Will she treated he step-children and natural children equally.

The Ellises loved the garden and had a green house located just to the left of their home. All that remains of the "flower pit" is its foundation.

Pallie's Bible is owned by her great-great-grandaughter, Diane Elizabeth Chenault-Parke. Pallie's cousins include 3 presidents of the United States of America, John Quincy Adams, William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison. Another cousin was General Robert E. Lee of Virginia who was a descendant like Pallie, of Robert "King" Carter of Virginia. Henry Clay of Kentucky was a Cabanis cousin.

Her Will is on file.
