Harold Chestnut, 84, of Hanahan, SC, a retired refinery room supervisor for Westvaco, died Friday evening in a St. Stephen nursing home.

His funeral will be 11:00 AM Tuesday morning, September 2, 2014, at the graveside in the Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cross. Interment will follow directed by DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Friendship United Methodist Church, PO Box 189, Cross, SC 29436.

Mr. Chestnut was born June 12, 1930, in Conway, SC, a son of Leo Chestnut and Alice Anderson Chestnut Cartrette. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church. Mr. Chestnut was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite, and he also enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are, two sons, Ronald H. “Ronnie” Chestnut of Hanahan, and Leonard P. Chestnut of Goose Creek; a sister, Shirley Roberts of Myrtle Beach; four brothers, Gene Chestnut of Lawton, OK, Billy Chestnut and David Cartrette both of Conway, and Jesse Cartrette of Florence; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
