Mary Z. Unger died on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Villa in Reading, PA. She was 107 years of age.
Born in Glymont, MD, she was the daughter of the late John Oliver and Anne Carter Swann.
Mary has lived at the Villa for the past 5 years and previously resided in the Somerton section of Philadelphia and Jenkintown, PA.
Mrs. Unger was a graduate of Temple University. She was a retired employee of the Philadelphia School District. She had taught business classes as well as being a secretary.
Mary was a world traveler. On her 100th birthday, she rode on a motorcycle to the restaurant for her party.
Mary was the beloved wife of William Unger for 33 years before his death in 1971.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Joseph, John, William Swann and her sisters: Anne Seely, Catherine Tyre, Agnes McCartney, and Cecilia Walsh.
She is survived by her sister, Sister Joan Swann MSC, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 30th in the Chapel of the Sacred Heart Villa, 51 Seminary Ave., Reading, PA 19605. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus at the above address.
