Dan Ray Reade
1954 – 2014
Dan R. Reade passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at his home in Springfield from Cancer. He was born Dec. 25, 1954 in Pocatello, Idaho to Wallace E. and Helen Reade. He moved with his family to Eugene in 1965, graduating from North Eugene, in 1973. He was active in Boy Scouts as a youth and a young man. Dan enlisted in the Air Force after high school and served at Kingsley Field, Oregon and Zweibrucken, Germany.
He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Hescock, February 16, 1974. Law enforcement was his life's work, until injuries and a severe stroke in 1985 disabled him. The family then returned to Lane County after living 8 years in Pocatello, Idaho where Dan attended Idaho State University. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed American history, hunting, nature and visiting with people at a local convenience store. He was preceded to the next life by his mother, and 3 sisters, Teri, Kathie and Beverly.
He is survived by his father, also of Springfield; his wife of 40 years; and three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Jana Reade of Wright, Wyoming, Chris and Melody Reade of Jefferson; and Patrick and Cassy Reade of Sweet Home; also a brother, Steven Reade of Portland; a sister Roberta Higley of West Point, Utah; and 10 very loved and loving grandchildren.
Services will be held on Wednesday, September 3 at 1'1:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel on 66th St. in Springfield. He will be laid to rest at Rest-Haven Memorial Park. Rest-Haven Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to thank the people at Sacred Heart Hospice for all their kind care and support.
