Amanda Grace Abeel, 83, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jon Gaul officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Abeel was born May 8, 1920, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Andrew and Susie Kate (Luchon) Closner. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident.

She married Myron Abeel in 1942 in Dakota City. She was a homemaker. Mr. Abeel died Dec. 3, 1988.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Myron Abeel Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Marlin Closner of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Laura Hill of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and two grandchildren, John and Jennifer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; her parents; two brothers, Valentine and William Closner; and a sister, Lucille Rich.
