J. Stuart Clingman, 73, director of design for the John Widdicomb Co. and an internationally-known furniture designer, died Thursday afternoon of a heart attack.
He was stricken at the Robert W. Irvin home at 461 Fulton st., E, while attending funeral services for Mrs. Viola Irwin, widow of Robert W. Irwin, with whom Mr. Clingman was associated many years.
Mr. Clingman resided with his wife, Margaret, at 541 Cambridge blvd., SE, where the body was taken Friday afternoon from the Alt funeral home.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Henry Jepson of LaCrescenta, Calif.; three step-daughters, Miss Sheila Fitzpatrick, Miss Margot Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Lewis A. Green, all of this city; four sisters, Mrs. J. C. Delbridge, Mrs. Stephen Barat, Mrs. George Abel and Mrs. Joseph S. Mohr, all of Chicago, and a brother, William H. Klingman of Grand Rapids, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the residence at 3 p. m. Saturday. Burial is to be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Was the chief designer for the Royal Furniture Company of Grand Rapids.

Known as J. Stuart Clingman.

He married Mabel M. Coburn on 31 Jan 1907 in Grand Rapids. They had one daughter, Jane Kaye Clingman on 15 Jan 1915.
