David Quentin Murdoch, 95, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 27, 1919, in Pea Ridge, son of the late William Claude and Ida Fridell Murdoch.
He was a 1937 graduate of Atkins High School where he was salutatorian and excelled in athletics. He worked at the Atkins Post Office as a substitute clerk and rural letter carrier, retiring after 41 years. Mr. Murdoch was a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Russellville First Baptist Church where he was a deacon and active in the Berean Sunday School class, Young at Heart, and the Senior Adult Outreach Choir. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jean Murdoch; grandson, Bradley James Gilbert; three brothers, Clarence, Leslie, and Hugh Murdoch; and two sisters, Elaine Montgomery and Walsie Hill.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, at Russellville First Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Sykes and Dr. Tom Walker officiating. Burial with military honors by VFW Rogers-Rye Post #2283 will be in Oakland Cemetery in Atkins by Lemley Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, at Lemley Chapel.
Pallbearers are David Nelson, Bobby Pitts, Gary Murdoch, David H. Murdoch, Timm Murdoch, Joe DuVall, Paige McMahen and Wil Wilhite. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Berean Sunday School Class and other Senior Adults of First Baptist Church.
