U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Daniel Freeman Swaim, 19, of Tise Road, Yadkinville, was killed Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, while searching for insurgents in Husayba, Iraq, during Operation Steel Curtain. He was born Oct. 2, 1986, in Guilford County to his loving parents, Michael and Rebecca Tise Swaim, of the home who survive. Lance Cpl. Swaim was a 2004 graduate of Forbush High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, was an honor student, was faithful attending the Bible studies held at Chris Hauser's house and was a member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church. He was a lover of the great outdoors, including hunting, fishing and playing paintball with his friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Virgil and Kathleen Swaim. In addition to his parents, surviving are his maternal grandparents, Mark and Martha Tise, of Yadkinville; uncles and aunts, Stephen (Marcia) Tise, Victor Lee (Chris) Swaim, Richard K. (Sandra) Swaim and Keith Braxton (Debbie) Swaim; cousins, Erin, Ryan, Tori, Morgan, Adam, Nate and wife Tina, Seth and wife Toni, and Matthew and Zack; and to his many beloved comrades in the United States Marine Corps - Semper Fi. Others who were special to him are the many faculty members, classmates, friends and paintball teammates who have touched his heart through the years. At 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, Lance Cpl. Swaim will be placed at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, in Mount Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Roberts, the Rev. Gary Foster and the Rev. Chris Hauser will officiate, with full military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps to follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Olive United Methodist Church Youth Group, 3521 Wyo Road, Yadkinville, NC, or Forbush Bible Study Group, c/o South Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 1336 Lone Hickory Road, Yadkinville, NC. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Swaim family.
