Luther Jennings Hutcherson, 93, passed away, Friday, August 29, 2014. He was born in Franklin County October 9, 1920, the son of the late Luther Beckham and Vassa Lona "Dolly" Herrell Hutcherson. Mr. Hutcherson was a proud veteran of World War II serving in the Signal Corp, Unites States Army. He was a salesman and retired from Sears Roebuck. Mr. Hutcherson was a Mason, Shriner and member of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church, West Jefferson, NC.
Survivors include two sons, Luther C. (Susan) Hutcherson and David N. (Emma Jean) Hutcherson; two daughters, Alice (the late Dennis) Roarke and Ceresa (Wayne) Clarke; half-sisters, Sally Schafer and Donna Hale; sister-in-law, Gladys Hutcherson; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Vernice Zuehlke Hutcherson; his brother, Robert L. Hutcherson; and sister, Linnie Hutcherson.
Services will be 10:30am Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Mikel Robinson will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Monday from 5-8pm. Hiram Lodge #4 will open at 7pm Monday for a Masonice Service at the funeral home to begin at 7:30pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
