Mrs. Lucy Norton Pfost was born at Onawa, Iowa. She graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa with a degree in Education. While teaching school in Montana she met and married Rev. Howard E. Pfost. They have three children: Mary Frances (Mrs. C. E.) Ewing, Jr. of Alexandria, Louisiana; Adona Jeanette (Mrs. W. Ralph) Cain of Ruston, Louisiana; and H. Philip Pfost, of Tampa, Florida.

Rev. and Mrs. H. E. Pfost served the Methodist Church in Granite, Oklahoma in 1918-1921, West Helena, Arkansas, in 1921-1924, and in a number of churches in Louisiana in every aspect of the life of the church. Under their leadership churches paid off their indebtedness, parsonages were built and remodeled, and a number of young people dedicated their lives in the ministry of the Gospel.

After the death of her husband in 1950, Mrs. Pfost made her home with Rev. and Mrs. W. Ralph Cain where there was a very close family relationship with her daughter, son-in-law, and four grandsons. She entered into the life of the churches served by them as she had with her husband. Even when her strength was failing, she continued through sheer determination and courage to participate in church and community activities and made the lives of those around her brighter.

Only a few hours before her death, her mind was alert and she expressed her faith in God and her thankfulness to those around her. The passage of Scripture quoted by her husband in the beginning of one of her conference reports expressed her feeling in these words: “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord and sing praises unto Thy name O most High. To show forth Thy loving kindness in the morning and thy faithfulness every night.”

The memorial service for Mrs. Pfost was held in Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston, Louisiana on October 7, 1978.
