Interment followed at Ogden Cemetery under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mrs. Johnston died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997 at Plantation Manor Living Center in Winnsboro after an extended illness. She was a resident of Winnsboro, a homemaker, member and long time Sunday School teacher at Boeuf River Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. W.B. Valentine, husband, Gordy H. Johnston, daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Dolphus Tarver, sisters, Meta Claunch, Ann Evans, Lola Reeves; brother, Willis A. Valentine, Albert P. Valentine, Benjamin F. Valentine, Wrentham B. Valentine, O.R. Valentine.
Survivors include her children, Gordy W. Johnston and wife, Eleanor, St. Amant; Laverne Beatty and husband, James, Winnsboro; Byrdie Mae Jennings and husband, Charlie Ray, Winnsboro; Virginia Collins and husband, Bobby, Winnsboro; 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
