Glenn Cheek, age 73, of Hamilton, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at 10:12 a.m., at Mercy Hospital of Hamilton. He was born February 3, 1926 in Harlan County, Kentucky, the son of Joseph R. and Mary (Harris) Cheek. Mr. Cheek was a veteran of the United States Army, during World War II, serving from 1944 to 1946. He was an assembler at Mosier Safe Company for 27 years, retiring in 1988, and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Hamilton. On September 2, 1950, in Jonesville, Virginia, he married Edith Sergent.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Cheek of Hamilton; one son, Daryl and his wife, Carol Cheek; one daughter, Rhonda Cheek; two brothers, Charles Cheek and James R. and his wife, Vivian Cheek; and three grandchildren, Rob, Stacy and Matthew, all of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wilburn Cheek; and two sisters, Elsie Capps and Angeline Cheek.
Funeral serviceR will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 1999, at the Bown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, with Rev. Oscar Hibbard, Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiating, who was Glenn's life-long friend. Entombment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Heart Fund. The family wishes to offer special thanks to the Hamilton Fire Department Paramedics, Mercy Hospital of Hamilton and Dr. George Manitsas.
