US Congressman, Vemont Governor. A native of Lancaster, Massachusetts, he served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Elected to represent Vermont as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1813 to 1815. He also served as a Member of the Vermont State House of Representatives from 1794 to 1797, 1799 to 1804, and 1807 to 1808, County Judge from 1803 to 1806, Presidential Elector from Vermont in 1804, Delegate to the Vermont State Constitutional Convention in 1822, and as Governor of Vermont from 1826 to 1828.
