U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1833, and then commenced to practice law 1836, in Groton and Lyndon, Vermont. He was attorney for Caledonia County, (1839-42), a member of the Vermont State Senate, (1841-42) and served in the Vermont State House of Representatives, (1849-50). In 1851, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-second Congress, serving until 1853. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he again was a member of the Vermont State House of Representatives, (1854-55). He then resumed the practice of law until his death at age 68.
