John Simmerlein was born between 1808 and 1812 in Bavaria. He married Catharine Mueller (Miller) from Pennsylvania. Catharine was born about 1827. Their first child was born about 1849 in Fox Township, Elk Co. Pennsylvania. John came from Bavaria through the Port of Baltimore on November 3, 1842. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in Ridgeway, February 22, 1848. In the court record John make the following declaration “I do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to…. The King of Bayern (i.e Bavaria) and to the Germanic Confederation whereof I was before a subject.”
The census records give the following children: Mary Frances, Patrick; John and George.
Census records show John as a farmer. In 1883 John gives his 50 acre farm to his son Patrick.
