William Clinton McCray, 78, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at St. Mary¹s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. McCray was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Smyer, Texas. He was a car salesman before retiring in 1981. He was a member of Tri-City Baptist Church and presiding president of the Resident Council at Monterey Park Nursing Center. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harper L. and Virginia Glenn McCray, one sister, Leola Howard, and one brother, Ardis McCray.

His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Doloros Maxine McCray, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Gary Caywood, and Cindy and Phillip Corkins, all of Blue Springs; one brother, Jimmy McCray, Dallas; and five grandchildren, Jana Sloan, Cory and Kyle Corkins, and Andrea and Joe Caywood.

A memorial service was held today at the Monterey Park Nursing Center; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the World War II Veteran¹s Memorial, 1-800-639-4WW2 or the Activities Fund at the nursing center. Arrangements were under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home.
