Ella Coombs Holt died peacefully in her sleep Aug. 12, 2014, in a Beaverton, Ore., care center, exactly two months short of her 102nd birthday. She was born Oct. 12, 1912, to George Robert Coombs and Hannah Rebecca Steed in Fielding, Utah.

She married her high school sweetheart, Mervin Earl Holt, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 50 years before he passed away in 1984.

Ella was always a wise, patient, and gentle mother of five boys: Clyde Mervin (Ruby Hancock), Dean Kent (Diane Donobediean), James Richard (Suzanne Hatch), David Charles (Constance Meyer), Douglas Joshua (Karen Crookston).

She was a stalwart lady, dedicated to her family, writing a weekly letter for over 40 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Upon her death Ella had 106 living descendants, including seven great-great-grandchildren.

Ella was always active in whatever was going on. She was a den mother, farmer’s wife, postal worker, short order cook, and avid quilter. She loved to sing, play games, cook, dress up for Halloween, and spend time with other people.

She served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Visiting Teacher for 80 years, Relief Society President, Stake Primary, Young Women, and Ogden Temple worker. She and Merv served a full-time mission to the Oakland California Temple Visitor’s Center.

She lived in Fielding, Tremonton, Salt Lake City, Farmington, and Kaysville, Utah; San Francisco, Calif.; Rexburg, Idaho and Portland, Ore.

She was preceded in death by a son (Charlie), granddaughter (LaRee), and daughter-in-law (Sonja).

Funeral services will be held at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main St., Farmington, Utah, on Friday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. A viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Interment will be at the Holt Family Plot in Farmington Cemetery.
