LATE ACTOR HAD S.L. RELATIVES

Alphonse Ethier, 69, formerly of stage and screen, who died January 4 in Los Angeles, was a native of Utah, it was revealed here Friday. He was born in Springville in 1873.

Mr. Ethier won acclaim when he played the lead role many years ago in the stage play, "Ben Hur," in New York City, where it ran continuously for two years. Since then he had been on the stage in other plays. When the motion picture became popular, Mr. Ethier went to Hollywood and entered pictures. He had continued his residence there since.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Katherine Ethier; a son, Thomas A. Ethier of Los Angeles; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Ethier Moore, who also was on the stage, and Mrs. Ruby Burns, both of Seattle; one brother, Horace Ethier of Washington, D.C., besides other relatives in Salt Lake City and vicinity.

Funeral services were conducted in Los Angeles January 8. The body was taken to the Hollywood Park Memorial park crematory for cremation.
