She was born September 13, 1932, in Oak Park, Illinois to the late Frank and Evelyn Shafer. She was the youngest of three siblings and grew up in Franklin Park, Illinois. Winnie married her best friend, Larry Engmann, on August 1, 1953, and they just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Winnie was a gifted seamstress. Her mother said she was "born with a needle in her hand." Winnie loved the 21 years that she worked at The Fabric Shop in Crystal Lake, Illinois. She was a member of Marysville United Methodist Church, Marysville, Michigan. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, fishing and playing cards.
Her memory lives on through her family; husband, Larry; daughter, Karen (Steve) Tucker; son, Bill (Chen) Engmann; grandchildren, Katie (Ron) Cox, Casey Tucker and Jimmy Engmann; and great granddaughter, Morgan Cox.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014, in Marysville United Methodist Church, Marysville, Michigan. Inurnment will be in the Allied Veterans Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron, Michigan.
Memorial contributions may be made to Maryville United Methodist Church, 1234 New Jersey Ave., Maryville, MI 48040.
