Dr. Ellett H. Titus worked for Sylvester Mowry at his silver mine near Patagonia Arizona. He and his Indian guide, Delaware Joe, were ambushed and killed by Apaches outside of Mowry, Arizona, in 1862 after returning from a supply trip to Mexico. Dr. Titus fought off the attack and then down to one bullet turned the gun on himself to avoid capture. His brother who was also working at the Mowry mine went on to found Titusville, Florida.
