Nancy K. Slater, daughter of Sarah (née Delbridge) and John H. Slater, was born in 1841 in Indiana, probably in Tippecanoe County, where her parents married in 1834 and Slater household was enumerated in 1840. The Slater family moved in 1845 to Cedar County, Iowa Territory.

Nancy "E." Slider and Geo. "Sumnermaker" were married on 11 July 1863 in Cedar County.

"Mrs. Nancy K. Simmermaker wife of George Simmermaker died Thursday afternoon, August 6, 1908. While she had been in poor health for more than a year, yet her last illness was of short duration.
"Nancy K. Slater was born in the state of Indiana March 22, 1841. She was married July 1863 to Geo Simmermaker. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. E. W. Carl, who preceded her mother into the other world, passing from this life September 9, 1903.
"Mr. Simmermaker who is now in his 87 years is left together with four daughters, children of his first wife, to mourn the departure of the deceased.
"The funeral services were held at the home in Tipton August 8th, W. Rollin McCaslin of the Presbyterian church officiating, assisted by John N. Naly of the Reformed church. Interment was at the Masonic cemetery." (Tipton Advertiser, Tipton, Iowa, 13 Aug 1908.)
