Jimmy loved to draw and play baseball. He lived a very close relationship with his brother and parents. At the time of his passing, Jim and his older brother were out with two friends for a trip to see the movies. The weather had been cold and snowy during the Christmas vacation from school and the roads were a bit icy. The slick roads combined with the dropping temperatures and a sharp bend in the road they were traveling on, found the boys hitting a patch of ice and their car leaving the road into an embankment. Jimmy was thrown from the vehicle and did not survive his injuries.

The incident was the most traumatic event of my mother and brother's lives. My older brother Bill, went throughout his life looking for ways to help others, becoming a volunteer EMT in his neighborhood. My mother never got over the loss of a child and remained forever strictly protective of me during my youth. My father held tight to the memories of Jimmy as a boy and would often reflect on the similarities of how my oldest son reminded him of Jimmy.

Even though Jim passed on before my birth, from my youngest memories I was in Jim's shadow and he was in mine. I had a childhood friend that my parents thought was imaginary until I told a friend of my mother that it was a little boy named Jimmy. Though we didn't have photos around the house, when asked what my friend looked like I described Jimmy down to every detail including the clothing he was wearing when he passed away. When I was 3yrs old, I fell down a flight of 8 concrete stairs and my skull was opened revealing the back of my brain. My mother said I nearly died and was in and out of consciousness for 3 days. When I came to I told my mommy that while I was asleep, I had been playing when my friend and he was pushing me on the merry-go-round and I felt sick. I told her he picked me up and held on to me until I stopped feeling sick.

When I was 6yrs old, I had scarlet fever and at times my fever came very close to 105 degrees. My mom put me in the bathtub with ice cubes and I can remember crying about how cold it was. Jimmy told me to think about a big white teddy bear wrapping his arms around me to help keep me warm. I stopped crying and the fever started to go down because my mom was able to keep me in the bathtub.

When I was 10yrs old, I went to a swimming pool and not realizing how deep the water was by the diving boards I jumped off of one. I didn't know how to swim at the time and I went to the bottom of the pool. I heard Jimmy tell me to look up to the sun at the top of the water and keep grabbing for it. I started pulling my hands up and down trying to grab for the sun like he said and even though it seemed to take forever, I made it to the top of the pool on my own and survived. When I got to the top there were people standing along the side of the pool looking into the water. One of them reached their arms out to me to help get me to the edge and someone remarked I was under water an awfully long time. The lifeguard was not beside the pool and if Jimmy had not spoken to me I truly believe I might have drowned. If there are guardian angels, Jimmy was mine.
