She is survived by her 3 children, Grandchildren Darrin Bounds of Wichita, Kimberly Bliss of Tallahassee, FL, James Bounds of Arlington, Diana Bounds of Lyons, and one great-grandchild, Mason Bounds. She is also survived by sister Debra (Gonzales) Brown of Lyons, Brothers, John Melvin of Hutchinson, James Howard of Mountain Grove, Mo. , Everett of Lyons, Lloyd Kenneth of Lyons, Verl Ray of Norwood, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred (May 24, 1996), son Steven, sisters Nora Mae and Katherine, and brothers Charles, Dearl, George, and Harold.
“Jean”, as she was known to all those who knew and loved her, was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of the First Christian Church and Love Circle Group, volunteered at the Thrift Shop, Rice County Council on Aging, and the Good Samaritan Center. She worked and served in USD 405 as a cook at Lyons High School and a custodian at Central Elementary School, retiring from the school district in May, 1991 after 23 years of service.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Lyons with Rev. Ron DeVore officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday with family present from 5:00 – 7:00 at Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons.
Burial will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations can be made in Jean’s name to the Alzheimers’ Research Foundation, c/o Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons, KS.
