Charles Lee Godsey, 68, of Springville, passed away Feb. 27, 2006, at the Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Oct. 12, 1937, in Springville, the son of Charles Beckam and Laura Alice Hall Godsey.

He was a graduate of Oolitic High School and Indiana University with both bachelor of science and master of science degrees in elementary education. He was a fifth grade teacher for 34 years at South Elementary School in Pendleton, retiring in 1993 to help his father on the farm.

He coached fifth-grade basketball teams for many years. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed all sports and served as an official at numerous sports activities for Pendleton Heights High School. He enjoyed attending athletic events, fishing, gardening and auto racing.

He was a lifetime member of the Springville United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees and participated in many programs, a 41-year member of Lions Club, a member of Lawrence County Retired Teachers' Association, and a board member for Springville Cemetery West. He had belonged to NEA, ISTA, and SMEA, and was a member of a Lions Club Bowling Team in Anderson.
