Mayor of Albany and State Legislator. The son of a publisher of legal books, A. Bleecker Banks attended Columbia College and then took over management of the Albany branch of his father's business, Banks & Brothers. A Democrat, he served in the New York Assembly in 1862. He served in the New York Senate from 1868 to 1871. He served as Albany's Mayor twice, 1876 to 1878 and 1884 to 1886. Banks was a Delegate to the 1894 state constitutional convention. He had been in ill health for several years when he died at his summer home.
