Gladys Buchanan Unger was the daughter of Frank Unger and Minerva,(Minnie)Buchanan, her headstone gives her birth year as 1882, but most articles that have been written about the playwright Gladys state she was born September 16, 1884 or 1885, and that she was 55 years old at the time of her death. Gladys was born in San Francicso and while she was very young her parents divorced, mother and daughter moved to Paris where Minnie studied art and Gladys was given the best education and she too studied the arts. Minnie met and married Arthur Goodman and the family moved to London. After Mr Goodman died, Gladys and her mother moved back to the states where Gladys started writing plays, and made a name for herself. They lived in Hollywood, California for awhile and that is where mother Minerva, Minnie Buchanan Unger Goodman died. Gladys went on to New York and became a leading playwright producing many films and plays.
