Howard O. Wise

SAVANNAH- Howard O.Wise, 87, died at his home July 3, 2008 of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was born November 17, 1920, in Clyde, Georgia and has been a Savannah resident for more than 60 years. Howard was the respected head of the Engineering Drafting section for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Savannah. Because of his superior training skills, he was asked to write the textbook of drafting standards for the entire Army Corp of Engineers. As a hobby, Howard often designed homes for family and friends in the Savannah area. Following his retirement, after a 31 year career, Howard single-handedly designed and built a weekend cottage with attached 600 foot dock near Bluffton, South Carolina. At this cherished Pine Island retreat, he indulged his life-long love of fishing. It was here that he was happiest and he loved sharing his special place with family and friends.

Howard was a long standing member of Calvary Baptist Church in Savannah. During the past three years, Howard has been blessed by the home ministry of Bible Baptist Church and many faithful friends. The family wishes to express gratitude to all who have visited and provided spiritual support during his home-bound period.

He is survived by: son Howard Wise, Jr. and wife Sue, son Jon A. Wise, daughter Valarie Wise Pescrille and husband Jim, and beloved granddaughter, Ashley Dawn Wise. Other survivors include sister Betty Brown (Jack) of Richmond Hill and brother Guerry Wise (Joy) of Cummings. Also dear friend and mother of his children, Gladys Wise, who faithfully visited, prayed and provided care. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He will be greatly missed by his caregivers and friends: Dorothy Robinson, Marty Stein, Felicia Green and JoAnne Gonsalves.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 8th, at 11am at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Hubbard officiating.
