"Junior" Burks, passed away at his home in Baxter, Tennessee, on Aug. 10, 2014. Junior was the youngest of eight siblings. He was born to Shird and Lizy Burks, on April 4, 1929, in Alabama.

Juinor decided he wanted to make a better life for his future family. After meeting and marrying his wife, Audrey, they lived in Illinois.

They had their first child, a son named Rodger, in 1952. After that, they had a daughter named Sandra "Sissy" in 1954. Soon after, they moved to California, where Junior worked for Douglas Aircraft.

A few years later, Junior heard that Alaska was the place that had plenty of work. He loaded up his family and drove to Alaska in 1956. It was there Juinor and Audrey would have their third child, a daughter named Rhonda, in 1960.

Junior worked for Green Construction Co, driving trucks and building roads throughout Alaska for many years. He chose to make Alaska his home for his family.

In 1967 after the big flood in Fairbanks, he decided it was a good time to start building new houses. Thus, he became the owner and operator of Aurora Builders, and he became very successful. Junior was also co-owner of Aurora Drilling.

In 1975 he turned Aurora Builders over to his son, Rodger. Rodger has very successfully owned and operated Aurora Builders for nearly 40 years, and will be turning Aurora Builders over to his sons in the very near future, making it a third generation company. Hopefully it will become the legacy that Junior dreamt it would be, and will remain in operation for more and more generations to come.

Junior absolutely loved Alaska. He was in his glory when he was able to hunt and fish. He loved sitting by a camp fire, telling stories and listening to others tell theirs.

In 1977 Junior and Audrey retired in Sequim, Washington where Junior started a number of operations. He raised cattle, started a hay business and sold gravel. He loved planting and growing gardens there, where so many of his grandkids got to see him in his glory. He was always a farmer at heart.

Eventually he moved to Ellensburg, Washington until his beloved wife of 44 years, Audrey, suddenly passed away. It was then his roots took him back to the south. He lived in Tennessee for the past 19 years.

Juinor was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, and his wife, Audrey Burks.

He is survived by his son, Rodger Burks and wife, Marie; four grandsons Rodger Jr., and wife, Megan; Joshua, Martin and Kenny Burks; great-grandchildren, Jade, Piper and Bentley; his daughter, Sissy, and husband, Dan Leighton; two grandchildren, Ben and Abbie; great-grandsons, Paxson and Dawson; his daughter, Rhonda, and husband, Andy Shrock; three grandchildren, Zach, Andria and Janet, and great-grandchild, Chassen.

Junior Burks was laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Audrey, in Ellensburg.

His family will be at a tremendous loss without him. Published in Daily News-Miner on Aug. 22, 2014
