Born 1882, 1 Church Street, St. Quivox, Ayrshire, Scotland. In 1886 lived with parents and siblings at Loudoun St., and later Boyle St., Dundonald Parish, Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland. Moved to Merkland St., Partick District, Glasgow, Scotland in 1901. Worked as a Groomsman on private estates like Ardmore House & Ferguslie House before motor vehicles existed & then as a private chauffeur. Married Agnes Young in Edinburgh in 1914. Correct spelling of family surname is Haire.

France WWI: Served in the R. A.S.C.( Royal Army Service Corps). Unsung heroes of the British army in the Great War, the ASC was responsible for the movement of supplies – food, gas, horses, ammunition, etc. – to the army on many fronts, using horsed and motor vehicles, railways and waterways.
