Capt. Alexander was born in Pemberville, Ohio and moved to Bowling Green, Ohio when he was two with his parents. He attended Bowling Green Schools and then the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He entered the United States Coast Guard, was promoted to Captain and was put in charge of the Detroit, MI District. He was in command of the Coast Guard ships along the Atlantic Coast during World War I and won high recognition for his valuable work in that group.
Surviving him are his 14 year old daughter at North Baltimore, Ohio, his stepmother, Mrs. WH Fry of Bowling Green and her son Robert Alexander of the Coast Guard Academy, another half brother Nelson Alexander of Bowling Green, a half sister Mrs. George Rimsey of Detroit and a wide range of friends. His wife died a year ago."
