VETERAN OF SPANISH AMERICAN WAR DEAD-

William Thomas Bond, age 81 years, died at his home in Mound City last Saturday. He had been in ill health for a long time preceding his death and had been seriously ill for several weeks.

He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and a member of the United War Veterans, Roosevelt Camp No. 24 in Maryville, Mo. D.O. Belt, Commander of the Roosevelt Camp, Clarence Phipps and O.A. Bennett brought the camp colors here in honor of their departed comrade.

The funeral services were conducted under the auspices of the local post of the American Legion.

William Thomas Bond was born September 19, 1849, in Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, died at his home in Mound City, March 3, 1928, aged 81 years, 5 months, and 13 days.

In early life he came to Illinois, then to Missouri in 1870, settling in Holt county in which he lived until his death.

On December 15, 1872, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. Blackney, who survives. To this union six children were born, three of whom preceded their father to the land beyond. Those who survive are; Mrs. William Bickel, of Mound City; Mrs. Lou Sager, of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Ellis Bond of Las Angeles, Calif.

The deceased entered into the service of his country in the military campaign of the Spanish-American War, in which he attained the rank of sergeant.

Early in life he identified himself with the Lutheran church but never moved his membership to Missouri. In the later years of his life he held in belief of the Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.H. Sauceman, under the auspices of the American Legion. Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery."
