JoAnne Weber, age 85, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Scott Traynor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Salem, South Dakota. Visitation is from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Monday, December 2, 2019, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a vigil service at 4:00 PM.
Pallbearers are Peter Berg, Melissa Bresler, Kate Holzer, Ashley Weber, Andrew Weber, and Jarod Weber.
JoAnne Weber was born in Montrose, South Dakota on June 13, 1934, the fifth of eight living children to Clara M. Ebersviller and Joseph S. Flannery. She attended Montrose School and Mt. Marty College. JoAnne worked in Sioux Falls until she was united in marriage to Philip B. Weber on September 1, 1955. Seven children were born to this union. JoAnne and Phil farmed and worked in the Montrose and Salem, South Dakota areas until they moved to Pierre, South Dakota in 1977. JoAnne worked at Job Service of South Dakota until she and Phil moved to Garden City, Kansas in 1986. There she was the office manager for her husband’s business, Landmark Appraisal, Inc. They retired and moved back to Pierre in 1994.
Philip died in 1998 and JoAnne moved to Yankton, South Dakota in 2004. She was active in Stephen Ministry and Befriender programs. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and a member of the Adult Education Committee as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She belonged to Centering Prayer Group, the GFWC, the Red Hat Society, a Pinochle Club and several coffee groups.
JoAnne was an avid reader and crossword puzzle worker. She enjoyed quilting, making many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She liked to travel, exercise, play cards and take part in continuing education. Her greatest joys were her family and friends.
Survivors include her four daughters: Dianne (Paul) Hansen of Missoula, Montana; Sister Jeanne Weber of Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton; Sharon (Thomas) Holzer of New Ulm, Minnesota; and Rebecca (Michael) Berg of Dubuque, Iowa; three sons: Ronald (Mary) Weber of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey; Anthony (Shari) Weber of Sioux Falls; South Dakota; and Robert (Theresa) Weber of Leavenworth, Kansas; 10 grandchildren: Rachel (Tim) Brown; Kate Holzer; Peter Berg, Melissa (Bryan) Bresler, Ashley, Nicole and Justin Weber; Andrew, Jarod and Maggie Weber; three great grandchildren: Breccan and Adlee Berg and McKenna Bresler; three sisters: Colleen Ronning of Sioux Falls; Elizabeth (Jerome) Rotert of Huron, South Dakota; and Catherine (Thomas) Duffy of Indianola, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Theresa Weber, Joyce (Duane) Kappenman and Phyllis Zwart; and brother-in-law, Steve Weber.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip; two brothers: Fr. Robert Flannery and Vincent Flannery; two sisters: Rosemary Kapaun and Lavonne Hayden; and two infant brothers: Richard and Peter.
