Excerpt of an email from granddaughter Jenesa Lamons Vivas:
"He had some trouble remember exact dates/ages so these are approximate. His birth name was Richard Hoke Hunerwadel. He was put in an orphanage around age 4 or 5. It was located in Miami on SW 84 St and 110 Ave (it's no longer there). It was called something like Kendall Home for Children, Dade County Children's Home, or Kendall Home for Boys. I googled it and it seems to have changed names over the years but the first 2 names I listed were what I found online. He had a very bad experience in the home and often ran away. (Side note: he still won't eat peanut butter because he was fed that repeatedly as a child). Around age 11, he was adopted by Augustus Saint-Gaudens (a descendent of the famous sculptor by the same name) and Penelope (not sure of maiden last name). It's been said that he was adopted to carry on the Saint-Gaudens name because Augustus and Penny only had daughters, and it ended up my grandpa only had daughters."
