Wright was the editor (from 1924) of the magazine ''Weird Tales'' in which he introduced the work of many famous horror and fantasy authors including H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith and Seabury Quinn. He also edited other pulps such as ''Oriental Tales''. An expert on Shakespeare, he had also earlier been a music critic in Chicago. In later years he suffered from Parkinson's Disease.
