David Lee Matthews was born in Bethel Township, Pa., Sept. 14, 1935, a son of Harry Matthews and Anita (Cook) Matthews.

David served in the U.S. Army as Sgt. 1st Class, fought in Vietnam and Korea, and retired after 20 years of proudly serving his country.

He worked as a teacher at Bismarck Junior College in North Dakota and Lenape Tech in Pennsylvania; and he was a part-time police officer in Parks Township, Pa. David was also retired from the FBI.

He was an active member of the EC church in Clarksburg, W.Va.

He was always ready to help and had a hug for all he met.

At the age of 72, David Lee "Matt" Matthews, of Clarksburg, W.Va., passed away unexpectedly at his home at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, April 3, 2008.

He will be missed by all that crossed his path.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lois Matthews and Lorna Crytzer.

Mr. Matthews is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Ann Matthews, whom he married Nov. 10, 1957. He is also survived by a son, Richard Matthews and his wife, Maj, of Clovis, N.M.; and two daughters, Jeanie Schatz and her husband, Keith Schatz, of Mandan, N.D., and Lucinda "Cricket" Patrick and her husband, Joseph Patrick, of Sutton, W.Va. David had eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his baby sister, Jane Wilds and her husband, Fred Wilds, of Bethel Township; and two brothers, James Matthews and his wife, Carmen, and George "Karl" Matthews and his wife, Sally. Both brothers are from Logansport, Pa.

There was no public viewing because David was adamant about donating his body to science.
