Eleanor "Nelly" McNeely was the third child [of 11 children] and eldest daughter of Archibald and Elizabeth MILTON McNeely of Rowan County, NC.

Nelly married Robert McPherson of Iredell County, 07 April 1800. He was the youngest son of Robert and Elizabeth RUSSELL McPherson. Her younger brother, Isaac, who was also a good friend of her betrothed served as Bondsman when Robert and Nelly's Marriage Bond was published.

Nelly and Robert lived in the Mount Mourne area of Iredell County, NC. Robert worked with his brothers, Matthew and John, at McPherson's [Grist & Lumber] Mill on the headwaters of Davidson's Creek near what is now Mooresville, NC. He also farmed his own land near the Mill. The family was a member of Centre Presbyterian Church at Mount Mourne where Robert served as Ruling Elder.

In 1832, at age 72, Robert and Nelly [60] sold everything they owned in NC and moved to the Cape Girardeau area in Missouri accompanied by their youngest son, Robert Franklin, who was about 21 years old at the time. They remained in Missouri until their death.

Robert and Nelly McPherson raised 5 children:
