A private memorial service for Marguerite Blackwell, 81, was be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the home of Leslie Blackwell and Allison Foster.
Mrs. Blackwell passed away Saturday, June 1st, 2013. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Ben Hill and Helen White Rutledge. She was the wife of the late Joseph D. Blackwell. She was a graduate of Howard College in Birmingham, AL where she was active in theater. She moved to New York City where she became the first female Program Assistant at CBS Studios, collaborating with such notables as Nat Hiken and Phil Silvers on "The Phil Silvers Show, Sergeant Bilko." She left New York to marry Joseph D. Blackwell; they had two sons in California before resettling in South Carolina.

Surviving are her son, Leslie L. Blackwell and his wife Allison Foster; brothers, William "Bip" Rutledge, Ben "Bo" Rutledge, Jr., Edward "Ned" Rutledge; four step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Ben Rutledge Blackwell, and her sisters, Cathryn A. Rutledge and Helen D. Rutledge.
