Ronnie Lee Nelson Sr., 63, of Parkersburg, died February 6, 2012, at the Care Haven Rest Home.

He was born November 1, 1948, in West Union, a son of the late Arthur and Martha (Perine) Nelson.

He was a former police officer in Cairo, park policeman for Mountwood Park, EMT in Ritchie County, and worked for the Wood County Sheriff Department for 20 years as a jail administrator. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Viet Nam War and was with the U. S. Army Military Police. He was a member of The Friends of Blennerhassett, Wood County Historical Society, the 17th VA Calvary (Living History Reenactor), VFW Post 1212, DAV Chapter 6, AMVETS Post 34 where he was a past Commander and was also a past officer of the State AMVETS. He was a past member of the Wood County Correctional Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife Edith Jeanette (Clark) Nelson; son Ronnie Nelson Jr., daughters Crystal Sargent and Melissa Vaughan, sons Marshall Cornell and Michael Addlesperger all of Parkersburg; sisters Mary Lou Cox, of Vienna and Sandra Terry, of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren Britton Cornell of TN, Maria Cornell, Hogan Vaughan, Ronnie Nelson III, and Katie Nelson all of Parkersburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Loretta Stickel, and a brother Arthur Nelson Jr.

A memorial service will be held 5:30 pm Friday, at the Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg. Visitation will be Friday from 3 pm until the time of service.
