Carl Ryan, 96, passed away on Aug. 19, 2014, at Hospice House in Spokane. Born to Steve and Helen Ryan on July 9, 1918, in Butte, he was raised and spent most of his life in Butte, before moving to Liberty Lake, Wash., with his wife, Mary, in 2001.

Carl graduated from Butte High School and served five years in the Army during World War II. Upon his discharge, he and Mary moved to Massachusetts for a short time before returning to Butte. Carl worked at Butte Neon as a neon sign maker for more than 30 years, retiring in 1982. His retirement was filled with golfing with his friends at Highland View and traveling to see his three children and grandchildren or visits to the Oregon Coast. He was a member of the BPOE Elks 240 and St. John's Parish.

He is survived by sons, Carl (Sue) Ryan of Bend, Ore., and Jim Ryan of Liberty Lake; daughter, Diane (Joe) Antonietti of Liberty Lake; grandchildren, Leanne and Geoff Ryan, and Marc (Jenni) and Eric Antonietti; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Nokell and Malia Antonietti; sister, Helen Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; infant daughter, Ann Mary; sisters, Mary Antonovich, Rosie Stosich, and Anna Ryan; and brothers, Tom and Steve.

Services and inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte at a later date.
