Meta D. Gritsch, 89, of Yakima, died on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Landmark Care Center.

She was born to Perry and Birdie Earl in Juliaetta, ID. Meta was in the U.S. Navy, serving for three years during WW II. She was a charter member of the Women in Military. Meta graduated from WSU with a degree in economics. She taught high school after graduating and later worked for the Agriculture Extension Service. She was married to Rudy Gritsch and together they owned and operated the Waterville Hotel. Meta also taught in a one-room country school outside Waterville. Later, she taught 1st grade in Waterville for 15 years. Meta retired in Yakima, where she was active in Terrace Heights Baptist Church and the Republican Women's Club.

Meta was preceded in death by her husband Rudy, six brothers and one sister. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Earl; a half-sister, Virginia Davis; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011 at West Hills Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will follow beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Terrace Heights Baptist Church. Arrangements are in the care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
