Leonard Palmer Janes was born in Paris, TN, in 1873. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1889 when he was only 16. He went into the furniture business in Paducah KY, in 1892, then in 1907, came to Memphis and joined the Memphis Furniture Manufacturing Company as a city salesman. He rose to become vice president, and on the death of the founder R.G. Morrow in 1920, he became president of the company. He died in 1942.
