He lived in Whitehall Township Lehigh Co PA, at the time of the United States Census of 1790 and is reported with a family of one male over 16 years of age, two males under 16 years and two females. He enlisted during the Revolutionary War in 1776 as a private in Capt. Henry Hagenbuch's company of Associators in Northampton County, which formed a part of the Flying Camp of 10,000 men (PA Arch ser 5 vol 8 pp 99 and 532.)

John's burial is a mystery. He is not buried in the immediate line with his wife and one of his sons. There are no empty spaces in the row immediately near by that would suggest his burial. In the row following there are two Revolutionary War Veterans buried. Surely John would have known these men. It may be possible that he is in the row with them as there were some gaps. But why when the others are remembered so well was John with no marker?
