Samuel Clyde Murphy Jr., 79, of Angier, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was the son of the late Agnes Hunt Murphy and the late Samuel Clyde Murphy Sr., of Epsom. After graduating from Campbell College, he served in the U.S. Army and then worked at WRAL-TV, Woody Hayes Background Music and Gray and Creech Office Systems.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Diane Zering Murphy. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Murphy, of Angier, and Lisa Martin and husband, Jeff, of Clayton; sons, Michael Murphy and wife, Jan, of Columbia, Md.; Philip Murphy and fiancée, Norma Currin, of Graham; and David Murphy and wife, Donna, of Garner; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 1, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home in Wake Forest. Burial was in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Epsom.
