Maxine Burgess, 77, of Keokuk, and formerly of Alexandria, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.
She was born on July 1, 1927, in Macomb, Ill., the daughter of Raymond and Nellie Chandler Walker.
She was with Harold Stroud, and then married Elmer Burgess on May 19, 1952, in Quincy, Ill. He survives.
Additional survivors include: three daughters, Linda Burgess and her husband, Danny, of Keokuk, Mary McGee and her husband, Jack, of Keokuk, and Annie Sue VerMeesch and her husband, Earl, of Keokuk; three sons, Charles Stroud and his wife, Clara, of Davenport, Elmer Ray Burgess of Alexandria, and his ex-wife, Linda Brown, of Montrose, and Richard Burgess of Alexandria, and his ex-wife, Audrey Burgess of Keokuk; stepchildren, Danny Burgess and his wife, Linda, Elmer Burgess and his wife, Carol, Sally Bennett, Howard Burgess and John Burgess and his wife, Bobetta, all of Keokuk; a sister, Sarah Davis of Pekin, Ill.; a brother, John Walke of Rome, Iowa; 65 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Clifford Walker.
She lived in Alexandria and Clark County for many years. She had been employed by Swift's Turkey Factory until 1968 when it closed, and then she was a caretaker for 15 years.
She was a member of the Southern Baptist Fellowship Church in Wayland, Mo.
She enjoyed fishing, animals, flowers and caring for her grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this morning at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, Mo., with Bro. Dan Steinbeck officiating.
Burial was in the Frazee Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the family.
