The Washington Times-Herald Thu Aug 21, 2014, 05:16 PM EDT LOOGOOTEE — Carol E. "Hupo" Holland, 73, died Wednesday at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis. Born March 8, 1941, in Martin County, he was the son of Roy and Betty (Smith) Holland.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and he formerly was a member of St. Mary Barr Township Parish. He was a 1959 graduate of St. John High School in Loogootee and a graduate of IUPUI School of Construction Engineering in Indianapolis. He was a member of Seymour American Legion Post 106. Hupo was a former surveyor for the state of Indiana and he had also worked for Green Construction Company, Amax Coal Minnie Haha Mine in Dugger and Midwestern Engineers in Loogootee. Among his interests and hobbies were woodworking, gardening, fishing trips to Canada, following the Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame football. Hupo had a fantastic sense of humor and he enjoyed donating to charitable causes.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Harner) Holland, whom he married Oct. 19, 1967; one son, Ty and wife Marsha Holland of Cadiz, Kentucky; two daughters, Aimee and husband Matt Craven of Odon, and Sara Holland and Rodney Edwards of Cannelburg; close family friend, Darey Birnie of Dryden, Ontario, Canada; one sister, Rita Ash of Loogootee; two brothers, Dean Holland of Mocksville, North Carolina, and Chris Holland of Loogootee; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeb Holland; and one sister, Margaret Ash. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Chapel in Barr Township in Daviess County, with Rev. J. Kenneth Walker as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Loogootee American Legion and VFW.Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
