Laveda Hodge Raker Obituary
Laveda R. Hodge Raker passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 in Tallahassee.
Laveda was born on December 22, 1929 to John and Delma Raker Roberts in the community of Sanborn, Fla. She was a lifetime resident of this area. She was a member of Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church.
She graduated from Sopchoppy High School on May 23, 1947, as salutatorian of her class and was a star basketball player. She entered the workforce at the Florida State Welfare Board in September 1947. From there she went to work in the Social Security Administration. Thereafter she worked for several years for Ford Motor Company as an accountant.
She graduated from Tallahassee Community College with high honors on the Dean's List. After graduation she was employed with the Florida Supreme Court as an accountant where she handled the accounts for Florida's five District Courts of Appeal and all Circuit Courts in the State. She retired from the Supreme Court on Jan. 31, 1992.
Visitation was Aug. 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Sopchoppy Southern Baptist, Sopchoppy. Services were at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at West Sopchoppy Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Silas Overton Raker; one son: Capt. Joe Hodge (LeAnn), Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters: Valerie Hodge Lewis (Ron), Susan Hodge Parsons (Greg), and Kelly Hodge Thomas (David) all of Tallahassee; four stepchildren: Overton Raker (Ali), Patricia Crosby (Bruce), Marilyn Granger (Rodney) and Nannie Woodward (Eddy); nine grandchildren: Brandon Hodge (Geneva), Jeremy Hodge, Semegne Hodge, Lucas Parsons, Seth Parsons, Adam Parsons, Jennifer Thomas, Karen Thomas and Benjamin Thomas; and one great grandchild, Adriana Hodge. Two brothers: Richard Randolph Roberts and Eddie Earl Roberts; and three sisters: Elizabeth Roberts Smith, Callie Roberts Quigg and June Roberts Seymour.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Jerry Joseph Hodge, Jr. of 33 years; brothers: M.L., Bud and Bill and one still-born sister, Shirley.
