She was born in Dover, Tuscawaras County, Ohio, on May 26, 1928, a daughter of the late Russell Wayne Harding and Mabel Milikan Harding.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyal Rex Tate, on Sept. 15, 2013.
Survivors include a stepson and wife, Richard and Marcy Tate of Florence, Arizona; a son, Wayne Gregory of Sandusky, Ohio; a son and wife, Gerald and Phyllis Gregory of Martinsburg; son and wife, Steve and Regina Gregory of West End, North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Terry Bombard of Fairmont; a son and his wife, Randy and Janet Gregory of Moundsville; a daughter and husband, Vickie and Ricky Massullo of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania; stepdaughter and husband, Patty and Curt Burmeister of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; and a daughter and her fiance, Jacki Gregory and Patrick Jordan of Martinsburg. Twenty grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren survive.

Mrs. Tate was retired from the selecting department of Owens-Illinois Glass Plant of Fairmont with 17 years of service, retiring in 1972. Ruth enjoyed quilting, working jigsaw puzzles, canning, baking cookies at Christmas and cooking family dinners. She also enjoyed the music of Patsy Cline and was a member of the Fairmont Travel Club.
Family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 6-8 p.m. today and from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Fairmont.
