Son of Lorenzo Dow and Elizabeth Ann (Beck) Prater, he married Eugenia Dovie Hampton on the 1st of October 1885 in Moulton, Lawrence county, Alabama.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR C. C. PRATER HELD AT EMMETT

FROST, Sept. 13, --- (Spl) --- Funeral services for Christopher Columbus Prater, who died at 3:45 Monday afternoon at the home of his son, Tom Prater, near Emmett, were held at the Emmett Baptist church at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. D. P. Cagle of Frost conducted the rites.
Mr. Prater born In Morgan county, Alabama, Oct. 15, 1861 and was 77 years old when he died. In 1885 he was married to Miss Dovle Hampton at Molten, Ala., and to them were born 11 children, nine of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Prater came to Texas in 1908. Mrs. Prater died In 1938.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. W. W. Yancey, Tanner, Ala. Mrs. Otto Northern, Frost; Mrs. Tommie Poteet, Mt. Calm; Mrs. J. L. Lusk, Dallas; and Mrs. E. H. Northern, Dawson; four sons, J. R. Prater, Houston; Dow Prater, Frost; John Prater, Blooming Grove; and Tom Prater, Frost; 53 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers.
